A tall rooted stake (TRS) is a live stake that has been rooted in a deep container for offseason bio-engineering installations. Typical problems for bio-engineering and soil erosion installations are the very short window of opportunity to obtain live stake supply, prep your construction area, and install large volume of plant material around restricted working windows along riverbanks and streams. Leaf Ninjas has developed a product to allow a flexible timeline for your construction needs while maintaining the function and quality of using live stakes along slopes, storm ponds, and riverbanks.

Using a TRS cutting is a lowrisk way of working with a flexible schedule for your installation. A risk of using dormant live stakes can be survival rates during installation and survival rate requirements for projects. The survival rates for a rooted live stake can be dependant on soil conditions, installation methods, irrigation and when orders are placed (harvest window). Using a TRS eliminates the initial risk of survival rates as Leaf Ninjas pre-roots the live stakes ready for installation.

Common requested tall rooted stakes

  • Sandbar willow (Salix exigua)
  • Shining willow (Salix lucida)
  • Red Osier Dogwood (Cornus sericea)
  • Balsam poplar (Populus balsamifera)
  • Meadow willow (Salix petiolaris)
  • Additonal willow and riparian species are available upon request

Additional custom offseason live stake products are available depending on bioengineering and slope stabilization methods that are required for your project. See below for an alternative for Brush Layer installations mid-summer. TRS Rolls are live stakes rooted in coir fabric you can roll into prepared planting areas, riverbanks or slopes. Custome species selection is available depending on the time of year.
