Leaf Ninjas plant nursery is located 25 minutes east of Calgary, Alberta. At the nursery, the Leaf Ninjas propagate many native and edible species from seed and cutting. Much of the native plant seed is collected by the Leaf Ninjas team to provide the best genetics for the future planting site. Contract growing for projects is highly encouraged so that project species and specs are available for the scheduled planting dates. The nursery holds a constant stock of species in a variety of sizes, from plugs to large containers, for last minute plant needs. Please Contact Us so we can help satisfy your plant needs.

The plant nursery has propagated plants for naturalization projects, restoration work, erosion mitigation, wetland and riparian areas and food forestry. Seed and cutting sources can come from our local stock that is on hand or you can have the Leaf Ninjas collect propagules, pre-disturbance, from a specific project area for ecological conservation efforts to maximize a projects social license.

Native Plant Nursery

The Leaf Ninjas native plant nursery grows their stock using seeds collected from the region of the project because the local genetics perform better than any foreign genetics of the same species. This is referred to as source identified genetics or point source collection.

Live Stakes

In addition to rooted stock, the plant nursery also provides Live Stakes for bioengineering projects or for naturalization of areas that do not have an irrigation plan for the establishment phase of the planting. Live stakes/poles are planted during the spring or fall seasons and develop roots and foliage with minimal aftercare, reducing project costs. Leaf Ninjas supplies tens of thousands of live stakes every year for a variety of projects.
